Charlie Woods Struggles At AJGA Debut

At the Will Lowery Junior Championship, Charlie Woods made his debut in the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) and shot unimpressive rounds of 78, 81, and 78.

Charlie Woods Struggles At AJGA Debut

Charlie came in at 21 over par at the 54-hole Carolina Trace Country Club tournament. In a field of 51 players, that placed him T33.

The 15-year-old golfer made his debut on the AJGA circuit when he accepted an invitation to the tournament from a sponsor.

But Charlie’s been erratic in his performance thus far. He’s now 15 over par at Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, Florida, after playing two rounds.

He shot 78 in his opening round, which included three birdies but was also tarnished by five bogeys, including back-to-back double bogeys on the second and third holes.

First Round

In addition to making birdies at the sixth, seventh, and fourteenth holes, Charlie also had five bogeys and two back-to-back double bogeys at the second and third holes to start the round at 6-over 78.

Charlie was left in the midst of the group.

Second Round

In the second round, Charlie made eight bogeys, including a double bogey at the par-4 fifth hole.

At the par-4 fourth hole, he made his lone birdie.

With one round remaining on Sunday, Charlie was 15 over par in the T40 division.

Still, Charlie’s involvement in this event has attracted a lot of attention from the public and media. According to reports, there will be increased security, including armed police checking IDs thoroughly at the door. This is probably a reaction to Charlie’s experience with disruptive fans during a Cognizant Classic pre-qualifier in February.

In order to keep the throng from going out of control, he was compelled to bring in a large number of security guards and armed police. Fans hoping to get a close-up look at the American prodigy in action hindered his progress in the Cognizant Classic in February.
